Draft Procedures

Who should attend:

·        It is recommended that all board members attend the draft.

·        Each team’s manager

·        1st coaches

No players will be allowed to attend the draft!

How the draft will proceed:

Ripken Major Teams will draft first until all rosters are filled, then followed by Ripken Minor and then Rookie teams.

Within the Ripken Major Division:

Teams will choose in reverse order of the previous years regular season records.  The Team with the worst regular season record from the previous year shall choose first, the team with the next worst record shall choose, and so on until the team with the previous years best record chooses last.

This will be defined as a round.

Players who played on a team during the regular season the previous year automatically are assigned to the same team.  This can be overruled only by a ¾ vote of the board of directors.  A base roster is the number of players who are already on a team prior to the draft.

A Manager’s child (children) is automatically assigned to that manager’s team.

First Round

·        Each team receives 1 pick.

Second Round

·        Each team receives 1 pick plus the team (s if tied) with the lowest base number receives 1 additional pick on its turn.

·        If not already a member of the team, the child of the 1st coach must be chosen on this round.

Subsequent Rounds

·        Each subsequent round proceeds as in round three.  Once all teams have equivalent numbers, each team receives 1 choice.

·        Rounds continue until all teams are at the roster size as determined by the league directors based on league enrollment.  Roster will be no fewer than 12 players per team and no more than 15 players per team.

Additional Rules:

·        The 2nd coach shall be chosen from the pool of player parents and volunteers after rosters are chosen.

·        A maximum of 8 – 12 year olds per team.  This is a Babe Ruth Baseball regulation and Raymond Baseball/Softball must be in compliance.

Sibling rule:

·        Siblings chosen for play in the same division must be on the same team, unless there is a written request from the player’s parent or guardian for different teams and board approval is granted.

Parental requests:

·        In general, parental requests for their child to be on a specific team will not be honored so as to insure equity among teams.  Exceptions will be at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

Within the Minor and Rookie Division:

The same rules that apply for the Ripken Major division shall apply for the Minor and Rookie Divisions with the following exceptions.

·        There is no maximum number of 12 year olds in the Minor Division, however 12 year olds should be taken in the Ripken Major draft whenever possible.

·        Rosters may contain more than 15 players per team.
